What If I Already Consider Myself to Be Spiritual?
This inner work seems pretty self-centered. I spend my days working for a charity, which makes me feel good, so why should I focus on myself when there are so many people who need my help? I don’t want to be navel-gazing.
This is a great question and gets to the core of spirituality and the practice of meditation. We all have the desire to contribute our efforts to better the world, and there is no better way to achieve this than through service. Serving others transforms our natural selfish desires, and by looking inwards we can begin to understand how to serve in the context of spirituality and human connection. Committing acts of service will help us to see that our own individual spiritual potential is unlimited because there is always room for greater spiritual understanding and wisdom.
