Humanity’s search for its purpose and place in the universe has prompted some of the most beautiful reflections by some of the greatest mystics, artists, thinkers, and healers in our history.
In a sense, much of the poetry of the world is a reflection of our desire to connect with something greater than ourselves through the lens of our unique essence, much like how the Higher Self is part Source and part you.
The connection we have to higher wisdom is not something that is outside of us that we are seeking to attain but rather it is something within us that we are seeking to awaken. We see this inherent knowledge spring forth from speakers across all of the major wisdom traditions.
By connecting with our Higher Self, we begin to discover our greater potential, and the destiny that is aligned with our personal evolution. We are given a glimpse into our unique purpose within the larger whole. Here are 12 quotes from great luminaries of our time to inspire our connection to the Higher Self.
“Everything in the universe has a rhythm, everything dances.” — Maya Angelou
“The universe is not outside of you. Look inside yourself, everything that you want you already are.” – Rumi
“Everything you’ll ever need to know is within you; the secrets of the universe are imprinted on the cells of your body.” — Dan Millman
When we connect with the Higher Self, we become attuned to the intrinsic knowledge and wisdom of the greater universe. We are not separate from nature, from the cosmos, or from one another. We are all made from the same materials, the same source, the same energy. By living in harmony with the Higher Self, we grant ourselves access to this larger, more abundant point of view.
“You are not IN the universe, you ARE the universe, an intrinsic part of it. Ultimately, you are not a person, but a focal point where the universe is becoming conscious of itself. What an amazing miracle.” — Eckhart Tolle
“Enlightenment, for a wave in the ocean, is the moment the wave realizes it is water. When we realize we are not separate, but a part of the huge ocean of everything, we become enlightened. We realize this through practice, and we remain awake and aware of this through more practice.” — Thich Nhat Hanh
“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” – Carl Jung
“Look inside yourself for the answers – you’re the only one who knows what’s best for you. Everybody else is only guessing.” – Charles de Lint
We are so surrounded by the influence of culture, society, family and religion. These ideas are pressed on us from a young age and it can be difficult to determine what is the ego’s drive to survive and stay relevant and what is our genuine, authentic path forward. By connecting with the Higher Self, we are able to cut through these permeating structures and work directly with the core of our essence, awakening our highest calling and reason for being.
“Find your vision, and let it guide you in all that you do. If you lack vision, look inside yourself. Draw on your natural gifts and desires.” – John C. Maxwell
“We do not ‘come into’ this world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree. As the ocean “waves,” the universe ‘peoples.’ Every individual is an expression of the whole realm of nature, a unique action of the total universe.” – Alan Watts
“The life of the individual has meaning only insofar as it aids in making the life of every living thing nobler and more beautiful…” – Einstein
“Compassion also brings us into the territory of mystery – encouraging us not just to see beauty, but perhaps also to look for the face of God in the moment of suffering, in the face of a stranger, in the face of the vibrant religious other.” – Krista Tippett
The more we connect with our true essence and learn to live through the guidance of the Higher Self, the more our compassion for others will deepen and expand. As we experience our own inherent interconnectivity, we naturally feel this on behalf of those around us. We long for the great sense of community and oneness that is our birthright. Soon, even those we find challenging become illuminated in a new way, and we can empathize with the challenges others have encountered and the choices they have made to cope. Ultimately, it is this compassion that reveals not only our connection to one another but our collective interconnectivity with the Source of all creation.
“Your lower self sees you as the center of the universe- your higher self sees you as a cell in the body of humanity.” – Peace Pilgrim
